Dublin Transport: How to Get Around


Here is a comprehensive list of all the ways to get around the city.


IRISH TRANSPORT APPS 

Free Dublin bus app available through app store for IOS and Android. Gives real time bus information as well as timetables and updates. 



Free Mytaxi app finds the nearest taxi driver. Available through app store for IOS and Android. Gives real time information and driver details. 




DUBLIN BUSES: 



PORTOBELLO TO CITY CENTRE 

Here are the nearest bus stops and buses from Portobello to city centre (4 min walk):





  • South Richmond Street/ Lennox Street - stop 7228.
(Blow salon side): 15, 15a, 15b, 15d, 15n, 14, 65, 65b, 140.


  • Kelly’s Corner/ Harrington Street - stop 2872. 
(St. Kevin’s church side): 9, 122, 16, 83.


All bus journeys to city centre: 5-7 min. During rush hour: 15 min. 
City centre stop: “South Great George’s Street.”



BUS TO AIRPORT

Entire journey: 50-60 min. 



Take 16 (towards city centre) from Kelly’s Corner/ Harrington Street - stop 2872. Earliest bus runs by this stop at approx 7am (not until 9am on Sundays). 




FIRST AND LAST BUS OF THE DAY

The first bus generally runs from 6:30am. The last bus runs at 11:30pm. 


HOP ON HOP OFF  TOUR BUS

24 hour adult ticket €20. Nearest stop is “Lord Edward Street” in Dublin 2. Mon-Fri: 9-5:30pm.Sat-Sun: 9-2pm.



GREEN LUAS LINE

The green line Luas is a tram that serves the south side. This is an alternative - but longer - way to get to the city centre from Portobello (“Harcourt Street” stop). The green line would be useful if wanting to go direct to:

  • Areas in West and North Dublin.
  • Leopardstown Races.
  • Dundrum Shopping Centre.



RED LUAS LINE 


The red line Luas is a tram that serves the West/ North side. 

The red line would be useful if wanting to go direct to: 

  • The 3 Arena (“The Point” stop).

  • The Guinness Storehouse (“James’s” stop).

  • Heuston train station, Connolly Dart station and Busarás for interconnecting regional transport. 


Linking to The Red and Green Luas Lines 

Take “Harcourt Street” to “O’Connell GPO” Stop.

⇆ vice versa either direction 

Walk 2 mins to “Abbey Street” stop on red line.



THE DART 


The Dart is a train that rides along Dublin’s coastal line. 

This would be useful if wanting to go to:

  • Dun Laoghaire, Killiney, Sandymount (Bray direction).

  • The Aviva (Bray direction - “Lansdowne Road” stop). 

  • Howth, Malahide and Bull Island (Howth direction - “Raheny” stop).


The most convenient way to get to the Dart from Portobello, is by the 15b bus. 

Take 15b (towards city centre) from “South Richmond Street/ Lennox Street” to “Pearse Street/ Westland Row.” “Pearse Street” Dart station is located nearby. 


GO CAR


Sign up for free and make a booking on Go Car app. Pick car and time you need. Full day is €60. Paid with credit/debit card. Add full insurance to your car for €2.50 extra an hour. Accepts most international licences. How to use? Arrive at car and unlock (using app). Open glove box, enter pin and take the keys. Return car to original spot with tank ¼ full minimum. There is a GoCar just outside the apartment.




DUBLIN BIKES


3 day ticket can be purchased at any bike station (with credit card only) for €5. 

ID pin (selected by you) is issued. Bikes can be returned to any station. There are two stations within 1 minute walk of the apartment.
