TAXI PRICES
- The price of an average (nightly) taxi from Portobello to the city centre is €8-10.
- Before 8am and after 8pm is considered “off-peak hours”. Single journey fares will go up by €3-4 during this time.
- During off-peak hours there is an extra €1 added for each person (after the first one).
- You can usually make a deal with the taxi man to take you to the airport for €30 (from city centre) and he’ll turn off the meter.
- €140 fine if you get sick or soil the car.
- Every taxi man should have an official ID, number and photograph over the passenger seat dashboard.
RICKSHAW PRICES
- Travelling from “Grafton Street Lower” to “Grafton Street Upper” should cost €5.
- Agree on price before journey. Walk to next one if he/she won’t take offer (but they always will).
OFF LICENCE
- Off licences open from 10:30am - 10pm, Mon-Sat.
- Off licences open from 12:30pm - 10pm on Sundays.
- If you are looking for alcohol after-hours, go into tandoori bite Indian restaurant on “South Richmond Street” (4 min walk). You can discreetly ask for a bottle of wine to take away (€20).
NIGHTCLUBS & PUBS
- Irish nightclubs close at 3:30am. Crowds normally head down for 11:30pm.
- Most clubs accept tidy jeans, trainers and t-shirts. Club admission fee averages at €5-10. Pubs close at 12:30am and 11:30pm on Weekdays.
